Nevin backs Chelsea to hijack move for Man Utd target

Former Chelsea star Pat Nevin has urged his old club to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.

    Branthwaite has continued to impress this season under Sean Dyche and David Moyes but is reportedly keen to join a club in Europe next season in a bid to impress Thomas Tuchel with a place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

    “If I was at Chelsea I would sign Jarrad Branthwaite over any of the players they bring in at centre-back,” Nevin told Casino Hawks.

    “For me, in the last year he’s been the best centre-back in the business – Bournemouth’s Dean Huysen is also special. He can be a Virgil van Dijk type of player, but we’ll have to see.”

    “Of course, with Chelsea, Branthwaite ticks all the boxes, but the price tag would be very high. So it wouldn’t be a surprise if Manchester United sign him. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Chelsea sign him either.”
